Chapter IX: The Saints and Antichrist
Our final consideration in this discussion of whether or not the scriptures teach a
rapture of living saints before the appearance of Satan‘s man—the Beast, is to
determine from the Word itself whether the saints are presented in relation to that
Wicked One.
Our quest for such light is soon rewarded. The prophet Daniel in his prophecy of
the beasts in Chapter seven, concludes with that fourth indescribable monster, from
among whose ten horns, there arises a ―little horn‖ clearly recognizable, in the light of
other scriptures, as the Beast, the Antichrist.
Daniel prophesies of him: ―And he shall speak great words against the Most High,
and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws:
and they shall be given into his hand, until a time and times and the dividing of time.‖
(Dan.7:25). These, mind you dear reader, are ―the saints of the Most High‖ whom
the monster of wickedness will ―wear out‖ and who will be delivered into his hands
during the course of his evil career─time, times, and the dividing of time. We
elsewhere read that the holy city will be ―trodden down‖ for a period of forty-two
months, that the two witnesses will witness ―a thousand two hundred and three-score
days‖ and that the power of the Beast will continue ―forty and two months.‖(Rev.
11:2-3; 13:5). So there is perfect harmony between Daniel and John on the length of
the career of the Antichrist, and also in the fact that the saints who are ―given into his
hand‖ and suffer physical death, will still rule with Him in His Kingdom (Dan.7:18,
27; Rev. 20:6).
The Apostle of the Apocalypse also declares: ―And it was given unto him(the Beast)
to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all
kindreds and tongues and nations.‖ May we recapitulate these scriptures:
Dan. 7:18: ―But the saints of the Most High shall take the Kingdom and possess the
kingdom, even forever and ever.‖
vs. 21: ―I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed
against them: until the ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of
the Most High: and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom,‖
vs. 25: ―And he…shall wear out the saints of the Most High… and they shall be
given into his hand.‖
vs. 27: ―And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under
the whole heaven, shall be given to the saints of the Most High…‖
Rev.13:7: ―And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome
them.‖
Rev. 20:4: ―And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.‖
