Abednego, the Preserver of His Servants, but your personal Lord and Savior, even as
He hath been to me these years. I could not have survived, but for His presence and
comfort.”
“Ah yes, my darling,” replied the king. “He is now indeed my Lord and Savior,
and I will henceforth seek to live to His praise and glory. He dealt hardly and severely
with me, and yet it was of His grace that he did so. For I can see that it was necessary
for Him to use these drastic means to smash the pride and rebellion of my heart. So I
now intend to serve and honor Him here, with the sure hope and expectation of going
yonder to meet Him, when my earthly course is run. And here in His presence, dear
Rhea, whichever of us goes first we will be reunited in perpetual union.”
“And now, where is our child, the Princess Hanniel?” the king continued after a
brief pause.
“She is with her governess. I will call her to come in,” was the queen’s reply.
In a moment the little princess entered the room and came to the side of her
mother. The queen said to her: “This is your father, His Majesty King
Nebuchadnezzar. He has been away a long time and has just returned.” The little
maiden, a little bashfully, dropped a curtsy to her royal father, who took her into his
arms and kissed her tenderly. She was a physical miniature of his beloved Rhea!
