P. 174

Cyrus listened with intense interest as the prophet-statesman spoke. While the
discourse had proceeded the king had to bend his head down nearer to the lips of
Daniel as his voice grew fainter from weakness and his words came more slowly.

After a brief pause the prophet continued: “Many of the revelations were so difficult
that I could not understand them. When I said to the Angel, ‘O my Lord, what shall be
the end of these things?’ He said: “Go thy way Daniel, for the words are closed up and
sealed till the time of the end. Go then thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest and

stand in thy lot at the end of the days.’ So my dear friend, King Cyrus, I am now about
to go to rest and stand in Jehovah’s presence, but I shall be here on earth again to take
my part in the reign of Messiah, when the Lord comes with myriads of His saints. And
you also King Cyrus, for your obedience and faithfulness will ‘stand in your lot’ at the

same time. We shall meet again.”

By the time these last words were spoken they were hardly audible and the King
had his ear nearly down to the lips of Daniel. As he spoke then his eyelids began to

droop and as he finished the words: “We shall meet again” they closed completely and
the breath was gone. Perhaps the noblest mere man whom history records had entered
into his rest. Cyrus himself took the shapely hands and folded them over his breast,
placed a kiss on the lips of the departed saint and withdrew from the room. Before

leaving the house the King gave orders to the major domo of the palace of the Chief
President concerning preparation for his burial and commanded him to await further
orders from the Royal Palace. He also ordered that the chest containing the scroll of
Daniel should be delivered to the royal abode.

The King had scarcely arrived back at his own apartments in the palace, when a
messenger came to inform him that Rhea, when a messenger queen of
Nebuchadnezzar had just breathed her last.

“That means that we shall have a double state funeral to honor these two
distinguished saints of Jehovah,” declared Cyrus.

Practically hand-in-hand the aged lovers had entered the gates of glory!
